School shoes rules….
Its back to School time and with that comes the question “ What shoes should my child wear to School?”.
Depending on the School your child attends, the footwear they will need to wear as part of their uniform can vary. Where the rules of School shoes are less rigid opt to place your child in a sneaker. I would recommend a leather upper as it won’t wear as quickly as a mesh top. The sole of a sneaker provides more cushioning as they run around the school yard during play time, making it overall a more comfortable shoe option for most children. Nowadays Sneakers come with velcro or laces, so if you need to keep it simple in the mornings, you’ve got options to make that happen! Woot Woot!
TIP: Always make sure there is an adult size thumb from the top of their large toe to the end of the shoe. This will allow for some growth during the year. Without making them too floppy on the foot at the start of wear.
Some schools will have more rigid rules when it comes to footwear as part of the uniform. One or two black dress shoe choices for everyday and one particular sports shoe for physical education! Ah the Podiatrist in me cries! There are some School shoe brands, like Ascent and particular Clarks shoes, that try to incorporate a more sneaker like sole base into a black dress shoe. These are a good option for an active child. Where possible, purchase a black dress shoe with a removable insole bed. As this wears down you can change it for a new insole. It can also be replace with an orthotic to help your childs foot/lower limb pain whilst keeping within the school rules. Bonus!
